According to the Telegraph, the region's villa holiday options are too good to miss out on and are a good alternative to a sticky city break.
While the writer had long stood by his rule not to visit the country in the hot month of August, he was glad when he decided to break this self-imposed regulation and embark upon a Tuscany villa break.
"There's nothing like viewing a place through the eyes of others to see it anew. Italy, I began to realise, gets me every time, August or no," he wrote.
Food was named as a key pleasure of a Tuscany holiday - peaches, apricots, sun-ripened tomatoes, cheeses and just-baked bread were among the culinary pleasures on offer.
Jake Gyllenhaal recently went to Tuscany with partner Reese Witherspoon to research the menu for his new LA restaurant, reported Life & Style magazine.
