Tuscany villa hotspot 'in top ten destinations'

The TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Destinations Awards are based on the opinions of "real travellers" - and Siena came out as one of the top tourist spots.

"Whether it's for their unique beauty, or abundance of attractions, the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards honour the most beloved destinations from around the world," said Michele Perry, vice-president of global communications for the company.

The Tuscany villa hotspot came fifth out of ten destinations on the continent, beating even esteemed Tuscan rivals like Florence and Lucca to the distinguished list.

It has been a good month for Siena - the destination recently welcomed Daniel Craig, who filmed action scenes in its picturesque streets in the guise of quintessential British hero James Bond.

The historic centre of the city of Siena has been declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.
