Tuscany villa holiday features a Flying Falcon Joust
The event, known as Balestro del Girifalco to the locals, is a fantastic crossbow shooting contest between the different districts of Massa Marittima.
Anyone who hops into their rental car and tracks down the town will find that it is "an unexpected little gem" in the wilderness of the Maremma, Whatsonwhen says.
The joust is held twice a year, with the next one taking place on May 24th.
According to the site, the contest ends in a competition to shoot down a mechanical falcon, which is followed "by an orgy of food, drink and merriment".
"Colourful parades brighten up the townscape of this small and relatively undiscovered haven and the air is full of excitement," the site adds.
For those hoping to have a cheap Tuscany villa holiday, the event could be right up their alley as it is free to watch and can be easily reached from a villa in the majestic village of Monteverdi Marittimo.
