Formula One arrives in Italy this September for the Italian Grand Prix – providing exciting days out for those enjoying Tuscany holidays.
The famous Monza circuit will play host to the 14th round of the 2008 Formula One World Championship over the weekend of the 12-14 Sep 08. The circuit is just an average three hours’ drive away from northern Tuscany, making it accessible to tourists staying in the many villas around the region.
The Italian Grand Prix is one of the most established races on the F1 calendar. The first event was held in Brescia in 1921, whilst Monza staged its first race in 1922. The crowds of Italian fans – known as the Tifosi – always ensure that the race has a great atmosphere.
Grandstands are often awash with red and yellow as spectators show support for Italian favourites, the Ferrari team. With current Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa likely to be challenging for the win this year, excitement amongst the crowd is sure to be high.
Visitors from the UK attending the race may also be following the fortunes of young British star Lewis Hamilton, who has quickly become one of the leading drivers in F1.
After a day’s entertainment at Monza, those staying in a Tuscany villa might appreciate the chance to return to their accommodation for a cooling dip in the pool!
