Tuscany holiday offers the opportunity to 'follow the tracks of legends'

According to Discover Tuscany, the region offers routes with "extraordinary panoramas" as well as interesting places to visit along the way.

The site claims Tuscany is a land of cyclists and holiday makers who test themselves on the same routes that cycling legends such as Gino Bartali, Mario Cipollini and Paolo Bettini trained on.

With so many lovers of two-wheeled transport in Tuscany, tourists are likely to see a number of friendly faces on their travels and many of them "will greet you with a smile or head motion, especially if you are a cycle-tourist laden with bags".

For stunning scenery that is best explored by bike, the village of Santa Maria offers captivating countryside and those staying in a villa in the area can cool off from a relaxing ride in their private pool.
