Tuscany 'has a classical landscape'
Tuscany's landscape has been likened to classical paintings by a travel writer.
Dan Hofstadter noted the region's "respect for proportion, which conjoins aesthetics and mathematics" when he wrote about it for concierge.com.
Within Pienza in Tuscany, he wrote, the placing of hill towns and surrounding countryside was "clearly conceived at a stroke", as it was created by poet and Pope Enea Silvio Piccolomini.
In addition, he said, villa holiday makers in the region may experience a sense of having walked into a painting.
Mr Hofstadter wrote that, while walking in Tuscany, "I have often had the oddest sense that my gaze as I look through the gaps between houses is somehow bound to a picture".
To him, Pienza is a "triumph of design", which he likens to a miniature Rome, without the traffic.
Tuscany is known for its vineyards, cypress trees and rustic appearance, according to initaly.com.
It is home to Italian cowboys, outdoor food markets, natural parks, a church and an ancient Etruscan mineral spa.
