Take a trip from your Tuscany villa to the Palio
The event sees daring riders compete in a bareback horse race across various areas of the city and the main square in honour of the Virgin Mary.
There are 17 different areas of Siena and ten of these areas compete in the race and winning is regarded as the most important thing, taking part is not what counts.
A fierce rivalry has developed over the years making the race an exciting spectacle for holiday makers taking a day out from their cheap villa in Tuscany.
Held in the Piazzo del Campo, about 25,000 people attend to see the jostling and drama unfold amid a flurry of parades, costumes and flags.
The event starts in the evening but visitors can be sure of seeing a good show as the competitors begin their preparations several days before.
Taking a trip to the event will certainly provide holiday makers with a great evening out from their family villa in Tuscany.
