Take a Tuscany villa holiday to taste the 'best bruschetta in Italy'

Here, many locals claim, is the home of one of Italy's most famous gastronomic creations - the bruschetta.

The Times' Anthony Capella writes that many people in the region believe bruschetta to be based on an ancient Etruscan recipe - an argument at odds with Italian chef Marcella Hazan's opinion that the bread can be traced back to the Romans.

One of the chief factors in making the perfect bruschetta is the use of new olive oil - with the first pressing regarded as the best by modern tastes.

To explore the olive groves of Tuscany, why not book a break in Gambassi Terme, which can be found in a picturesque and fertile region.
