Slow travel in a Tuscany villa
Italy could be considered the godmother of slow travel as the birthplace of its inspiration, the slow food movement, observes the Star Tribune.
Fundamental to slow travel is a commitment to taking time over things, so the end of a holiday is accompanied by a feeling of refreshment.
Adherents to this philosophy tend to prefer rented accommodation such as a cheap villa to staying in a hotel, the report observes.
Slow traveller Denise Edelstein told the publication that a trip to Florence - a popular location among Tuscany villa fans - and Rome in February saw her spend four days in each location.
"I saved one day for the Vatican Museum, one for the Coliseum. I'm not going to rush around," she said.
On the Guardian Travelog, Ed Gillespie recommends viewing the journey as part of the holiday experience for people looking to get a taste of slow travel.
