See the towers of San Gimignano delle belle Torri

Located only 56 kilometres from Florence, it is an important historical site due to its 14 surviving medieval towers.

These were built by wealthy pilgrims and some are as tall as 50 metres. They even lend their name to the town - San Gimignano delle belle Torri is translated as 'of the fine towers'. On a more infamous historical note, it also once survived an attack from the notorious Attilla the Hun.

However, San Gimignano delle belle Torri also has much to offer those on Tuscany holidays who are not so interested in history.

Its countryside setting means that it is ideal for walking or mountain biking among the olive groves and there is an array of plant and animal life to be found by nature-lovers.
