See the Mona Lisa in a new light on a Tuscany villa holiday

A semi-nude portrayal of the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci is to go on display at the Museo Ideale in the Tuscan town near Florence.

The work bears a striking resemblance to the original, with the subject looking straight at the viewer with her famous enigmatic smile and her hands crossed.

And experts agree there are clear links between the nude version and the Mona Lisa that hangs in the Louvre in Paris.

They are now studying the painting, which was discovered inside the walls of a private library belonging to Cardinal Joseph Fesch, Napoleon's ambassador to the Vatican, to determine whether it was actually created by the Italian artist.

Vinci is the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci and is located close to the city of Florence. Holiday makers can book a Tuscany villa in the town, which is dominated by a castle which is now home to the Leonardo museum.
