See Siena's "glory" on a Tuscany holiday

The majestic beauty of Siena has to be seen to be believed, according to one writer following his Tuscany holiday.

Anthony Sattin notes in the Times that the city's scope once rivalled Florence and while it may be less famous than its cultural behemoth counterpart, Siena is still a gorgeous sight to behold.

Sattin took his family on a biking Tuscany holiday, taking in some of the region's most stunning sights with the breeze in their faces.

"Each time we slogged to the crest of a hill, there stood Siena behind us, in all its walled medieval glory," he comments.

Siena's development was halted by the Black Death, but a wall and some marble arcades - all that became of plans for a cathedral to rival Florence's - are a fascinating testament to "thwarted ambition", says the journalist.

Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli recently praised Tuscany holidays, telling CNN that Florence in particular "is part of my life and is part of myself".
