San Paolino festival in Lucca

The festival of San Paolino in Lucca occurs on the third Sunday each July and like many other occasions in Tuscany it requires a strict dress code.

Medieval costume is essential to the event and torchlit parades and a traditional crossbow contest also take place.

Lucca is the centre of the events and travellers may be interested to visit the church of San Paolino.

A Renaissance building, the church stands on a site that was once occupied by a Roman temple.

Lucca is easily accessible for those staying in a family villa in Tuscany because of its excellent transport links from Florence and Pisa.

Shops, restaurants and cultural sites await holiday makers visiting the area with long country walks or a day spent relaxing beside the private villa pool also viable options.
