San Paolino festival in Lucca
The festival of San Paolino in Lucca occurs on the third Sunday each July and like many other occasions in Tuscany it requires a strict dress code.
Medieval costume is essential to the event and torchlit parades and a traditional crossbow contest also take place.
Lucca is the centre of the events and travellers may be interested to visit the church of San Paolino.
A Renaissance building, the church stands on a site that was once occupied by a Roman temple.
Lucca is easily accessible for those staying in a family villa in Tuscany because of its excellent transport links from Florence and Pisa.
