Reclaim Dante on a Tuscany holiday

Tuscany villa holidays

Perhaps in recognition of the debt owed by Tuscany holidays to past creative triumphs, the city council of Florence has approved a measure to revoke the exile of Dante, the poet who authored the Divine Comedy.

According to United Press International, the council has approved a motion for the mayor to initiate a "public rehabilitation" for the poet, ANSA reported.

Dante was exiled from the city of Florence in 1302.

However, people staying in Tuscany villas can still craft a Dante-themed itinerary for their visit to the city.

About Florence has suggested several landmarks, such as Baptistery of San Giovanni - the site of the poet's christening - and the Palazzo del Bargello - where his banishment from Florence was proclaimed.

The motion to revoke this banishment was passed by 19 votes in favour to five against.
