Music festival returns to Florence

Maggio Musicale Fiorentino kicks off on April 29th and runs until July 2nd - so holiday makers who visit the region over the summer will have a chance to listen to an array of traditional music.

According to organisers, one of the highlights of the festival is the world premiere of the contemporary opera Patto Di Sangue by Matteo D'amico.

Patto Di Sangue is a black comedy in two parts that is loosely based on Ramon del Valle-Inclan.

The festival will close with the traditional Gala of Dance and a closing concert directed by Zubin Mehta - which will be in the Boboli Gardens in an open-air theatre with 3,000 seats.
