Murabilia, Tuscany
'Murabilia- mura in fiore' means flowers in the walls, appropriate considering the exhibition of flowers and unusual plants being held this summer along the 16th century red brick walls of San Colombano and San Regolo in Lucca, Tuscany.
Held annually in the first week of September (7th to 9th), Murabilia features seminars on plants and gardening as well as tree climbing and a place for the children to experiment.
It costs six euros for adults and four euros for children and is open from 9:30 am to 7:30pm except on Friday when it opens at 2pm.
Lucca used to be a Roman colony and the evidence is clear from its straight streets and amphitheatre market.
The cathedral of San Martino is worth a visit in the town centre, with a statue of Saint Martin, when he was a Roman soldier, sharing his coat with a beggar.
