Medieval festival on a Tuscany villa holiday
The ancient festival, which takes place in Massa Marittima, takes place on the first Sunday after May 20th and a cross-bow competition is staged between teams.
Different quarters of the city submit their teams and aim to hit a target about 35 metres away.
The competitors shoot their arrow at the target and the closest arrow to the centre takes the spoils - a golden arrow.
A painted silk cloth is presented to the winning quarter of the medieval competition.
Holiday makers can expect to see a procession made up of over 150 people dressed in traditional costumes providing a good day of entertainment for those taking a Tuscany holiday.
If travellers taking a villa holiday would rather relax then there is ample opportunity to take country walks in the countryside or simply spend a day beside a private villa pool.
