Late summer 'great for a Tuscany holiday'
According to the Independent, the end of August could be the ideal time to sample the delights of Florence on a Tuscany holiday, as the streets grow emptier while the sun continues to shine.
Climbing the 466 steps to the top of the Duomo was cited as an essential Florence experience for tourists with a head for heights, while people who prefer to plant their feet firmly on the ground could try a stroll around the city's landmarks - which include the Uffizi, the Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Pitti.
A morning of exertion could be followed by an outdoor terrace table for lunch, while art at the Galleria dell'Accademia beckons in the afternoon for those who can resist the city's exquisite shops.
"Europe's capital of Renaissance art is a great weekend break destination in late summer - and the fine Italian food on offer will fuel your quest for cultural nourishment," the newspaper states.
A Tuscany villa destination not far from Florence that may appeal is Livorno, described by Travelplan.it as one of the most unique cities in Italy.
