Jousting excitement on a Tuscany holiday

The event is a medieval joust and travellers will been thrown back to the middle ages as eight knights clad in chain armour take to the field.

A great day-out from the family villa in Tuscany, the event, like many of the medieval festivals in the region, features a competition between different quarters.

Four sides compete, dressed in red and green, yellow and crimson, green and white and yellow and blue and a parade featuring about 300 people dressed up in medieval costume also occurs.

The Bishop blesses the armies on the steps of the Cathedral and then an old poem is recited.

A song is also sung and then the exciting joust can begin in the event which is sure to be a fond memory from a Tuscany villa holiday.
