Gioco del Ponte attracts visitors on a Tuscany holiday

A fiercely contested festival brings many of the various sectors of the town together with local pride at stake.

Characters in medieval costumes ride on horseback in parades through the famous town with teams of 20 people competing.

Holiday makers taking a Tuscany villa holiday can see the competitors as they attempt to push a seven tonne trolley onto the other side of a bridge.

Also at the event is a historical procession along the Arno river that leads up to the battle on the bridge.

Visitors can also take a trip to the Leaning Tower of Pisa situated behind the city's cathedral.

Poorly laid foundations have meant the tower has begun to lean over the years since its construction in the 1100s.
