Florence 'great for vintage shopping'

In an article for the Telegraph, journalist Tim Jepson said the city is a "superb shopping centre" which has some beautiful old shops.

Here, tourists can pick up some "exquisite traditional" goods, which could make excellent holiday souvenirs.

He claimed Florence is better than Rome for shopping and boasts all the big fashion brands of Milan squeezed into a more easily navigated space.

"One of the city's best retail pleasures, however, is stumbling across its little-known traditional shops, from centuries-old pharmacies to historic gems selling everything from silk to marbled paper," he remarked.

Holiday makers who fancy a trip to Florence to do some serious shopping could book a Tuscany villa in Vinci, which is close to the city.

It is also the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci and home to a museum dedicated to the Renaissance artist's life and work.
