Florence Iris Festival brings beauty to Tuscany villa
Gardeners from all over the world are attracted to the horticultural event known locally as the Giardino dell'Iris to see the competitors.
The flowers are judged on their appearance and aroma and colour, shape and size are all taken into account as well as their resistance to various diseases.
A special prize known as the Fiorino D'oro is awarded to flowers that depict the coat of arms of Florence.
Beautiful flowers cover the exhibition and the growers take great pride in their work meaning the event is a fantastic spectacle for holiday makers taking a day out from their family villa in Tuscany.
Irises are known as quite easy to grow and they survive best by being planted in well drained soil in a sunny area.
