Ferragosto in a Tuscany villa
Ferragosto is a public holiday in Italy and Brits on Tuscany villa breaks are likely to observe the native population taking the day to relax on Friday August 15th.
On the About.com Guide to Italy Travel, Martha Bakerjian notes that shops and businesses close for Ferragosto in line with the atmosphere of winding down and relaxation.
However, the bustle of daily commerce is usually replaced with festivities including parades, food, music, fireworks or all of the above.
People taking a Tuscany holiday in Siena this weekend will get the opportunity to experience the city's second Palio on Saturday - the horse race takes place twice in August.
The Independent recently commented that August may be the best time to experience Florence, as the city's popular streets grow emptier and attractions become easier to access.
