The website placed the Duomo cathedral sixth in its list of the top ten free European attractions, potentially making the sight perfect for those on a Tuscany holiday, with the Pantheon in nearby Lazio coming out on top.
Other Italian attractions picked out by TripAdvisor included St Mark's Basilica in the north-eastern region of Veneto.
"As travellers look for ways to save on their vacation this summer, TripAdvisor has recommended top attractions with a price that appeals to even the most frugal visitors," remarked Michele Perry, vice-president of global communications for TripAdvisor.
Tuscany holiday makers looking to visit Florence's top free attraction might like to know that a major project to make over the cathedral is progressing well, with the scaffolding that previously covered the beautiful building set to be taken down by the end of the year, Reuters reports.
