Enjoy a traditional festival in Tuscany

On September 7th, children will carry lanterns through the streets of Florence to mark the opening of the event.

Once the Rificolona has been officially launched, parties, parades and music engulf the city for around 24 hours, before the festival is closed by a procession led by the cardinal.

According to What's on When, the festival has been taking place for many years and is thought to be linked to a peasant market which used to be held in the city every September.

Britons taking a villa holiday to Tuscany this year will find no shortage of events to keep them occupied.

Other festivals taking place over the coming month include the Jousting of the Saracens, Murabilia and the Florence Wine Championship.
