Elba, a 'beautiful place' to be exiled to

Elba has been described as the pearl of the Tuscan archipelago, with white sands, crystal clear seas and miles of stunning natural landscapes.

Guests staying in a villa in the medieval hilltop village of Monteverdi Marittimo in Tuscany may not want to leave but a boat trip to Napoleon's place of exile could be the highlight of their trip.

Monteverdi Marittimo itself has a rich history and there a plenty of ancient Roman ruins to discover.

There is even a Roman road that leads to the remains of an early villa, which may mean that the resort has been attracting tourists seeking a cheap Tuscany holiday for centuries.

A sandy beach is just 35 minutes away from the woodland retreat, so visitors to Monteverdi Marittimo can enjoy a varied villa holiday to remember.
