Chestnuts in Tuscany
Tuscany is home to some of the finest chestnuts in the world, and Monte Amiata, is famous for producing them.
Near to Mont San Savino, in southern Tuscany, the mountain is actually a dormant volcano and is the site for many of the chestnut trees the region is so famous for.
Holidaymakers will be interested to learn how the area has survived on the nourishment and business of chestnuts for many years, but tourists are very much welcome.
Keen walkers in the area will be excited by the prospect of the La Strada della Castagna, or the Chestnut Road.
The path starts in several places and takes walkers through the chestnut woods, allowing holidaymakers to experience over 300 different varieties that grow there.
Chestnut lovers should definitely head to the region in October as on every weekend in the month there is a festival dedicated to the nuts, according to the Times.
Tuscany certainly offers visitors the chance to walk and admire some of the scenery behind of the area, and this month there is every chance to sample some of the produce that Mount Amiata is famous for.
