A Tuscany villa holiday could bring luck
The festival of the cricket takes place in Cascine Park in Florence and provides the perfect day-out on your Tuscany villa holiday.
Thousands of lucky crickets are sold to locals and travellers each year on the Day of Ascension.
Also on display are food stalls selling various kinds of sweets and musical shows with entertainment continuing throughout the day.
Taking place on May 1st, the event replaces May-day celebrations of Calendimaggio when young men used to donate a cricket to their loved ones as a symbol of good luck.
Historically the day for play, courtship and good food, children would chase the crickets before merchants put them in cages and marketed them as 'lucky'.
These days the crickets are artificial and just make an authentic noise but the event is still a fun and enjoyable day-out for families on a Tuscany holiday.
