Walk the Lycian Way on a Turkey villa holiday

Britons going on a Turkey villa holiday might want to consider making an excursion to walk part of the Lycian Way.

According to Nigel Richardson of the Telegraph, the 310 km route stretches from Oludeniz in the west to Antalya in the east and offers much in the way of history and beautiful scenery.

"What it's supposed to do is give people an insight into how Lycia was a couple of thousand years ago," says Kate Clow, who came up with the idea of creating the path 15 years ago.

Highlights include the tomb of Captain Eudemos in Olympos, the semi-submerged ruins of earthquake-hit Simena and landscapes ranging from towering mountains to forested headlands, Mr Richardson states.

The best time to walk along the Lycian Way is between late September and the end of November, when the weather is cool enough for a long trek.

Turkey villa holiday makers can opt to walk part of the route rather than all of it if they wish - the path is located on the Mediterranean coast and nearby villas include those in Kalkan and Kas.
