Visit 'the world's most romantic beach' on a Turkey holiday
Turkey holidays offer no end of romance for couples, but a trip to Sedir Island could possibly be a holiday highlight.
According to an article in the Plymouth Herald, the stretch of sand that lies here is arguably the most romantic in the world.
"Here, legend would have it, the Roman general and eternal suitor, Mark Antony, displayed his undying affection for Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt by creating a beach just for her using barges full of sand ferried from her home city, Alexandria," the publication states.
Indeed, geological experts have discovered that the sand that exists on Sedir Island is unique to the area and has never been found anywhere else in Turkey, suggesting that it may in fact have come from northern Egypt.
Those hoping to lay down a towel and relax on the sand may be disappointed to hear that sunbathing is actually prohibited on what has become known as Cleopatra's beach.
However, a trip to Sedir Island could still be worthwhile, if only just to gaze at the view with that special someone.
Those renting Turkey villas in Dalyan could travel to the beach on a day trip. From here, they can also take a boat ride to Iztutu beach to watch rare loggerhead turtles nesting on the sands.
