Visit popular Istanbul during holiday in Turkey

People sunning themselves on the beaches and diving in the crystal-clear sea during a holiday in Turkey may like to enjoy a day trip to Istanbul.

On the back of its status as one of the European Cities of Culture in 2010, the city may be a choice for many people looking to get away for a short time.

And STR Global publishes statistics on room occupancy levels in Istanbul, which now stand at about 70 per cent, as evidence of its popularity with tourists.

But those who do not wish for the inner-city style throughout their whole break may be shrewd to book a villa in Turkey and visit Istanbul for a day or night.

Istanbul is often known as the spot where east meets west, with one side of the city located in Europe and the other in Asia.

The Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in the UK recently revealed holidays in Turkey are becoming an increasingly common occurrence, with some 16 million people heading to the country in the first seven months of 2010.
