Visit one of Europe's best beaches on a Turkey villa holiday

People planning to spend some time relaxing by the sea during a Turkey villa holiday this year might be interested in visiting a beach that is in with a chance of being named the best in Europe.

Patara beach on the country's Aegean coast is one of ten seafront hotspots that have been shortlisted in the category covering Europe's leading beaches for the 2010 World Travel Awards.

People who visit Patara during a Turkey villa holiday will also be able to see local attractions such as the Roman amphitheatre.

The town is competing with destinations including Cannes in France, Dona Ana in the Algarve and Marbella in Spain for the title of Europe's best beach in this year's World Travel Awards.

Speaking after the shortlists were announced, Graham Cooke, founder and president of the awards programme, said: "Europe in particular is always highly contested.

"After a rigorous selection procedure, successful nominees must now continue to demonstrate what exactly it is that sets them apart from the rest."

Istanbul in Turkey is in the running to be named Europe's top travel destination this year, along with the Greek island of Crete, Paphos in Cyprus and Barcelona in Spain.
