Turkey villas: 'Country going from strength to strength'

Brits have been told of the popularity of Turkey, which could encourage some to book up holiday villas in the country.

Tolga Tuyluoglu, the director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office UK & Ireland, pointed out that last year, 28.6 million people descended upon resorts around the destination.

Such a statistic represented a rise of 5.74 per cent over the visitor figures that Turkey managed in 2009, according to Mr Tuyluoglu.

He added that of the 2010 total, 2.67 million of these came from the UK, an increase of more than ten per cent from the year before and a possible indicator for the months ahead.

Mr Tuyluoglu commented: "Turkey has gone from strength to strength in the UK market and has been one of the fastest-growing destinations for British visitors over the past five years."

Meanwhile, a report released by GfK Ascent has also highlighted the popularity of Turkey, climbing to the second-best selling summer destination for the week to March 5th.
