Turkey villa holidays ideal for birdwatchers
Bird watching was on the agenda in Turkey last weekend when Bird Life International's EuroBirdwatch event was held in the town of Fethiye.
According to the Hurriyet Daily News, a programme of activities and bird watching trips were organised to watch migratory birds on their journey south.
Though the event is now over, the publication points out that Turkey is home to a wide variety of bird species and also offers some great viewing spots.
Indeed, sitting between three different continents, the country acts as a bridge between the northern areas where birds reproduce and the southern parts where they nest for the winter.
There are over 450 species to be spotted in Turkey, so holiday makers should make sure they pack their binoculars and a good ornithology guide.
Turkey villas in Kaya on the Mediterranean coast are just a stone's throw from Fethiye where EuroBirdwatch was held, so could be a great place for keen bird watchers.
Surrounded by farmland and mountains, the village offers an interesting array of habitats for featured creatures.
It is also steeped in history thanks to its ancient ruins and its medieval village, which holiday makers can explore at their leisure.
