Turkey holidays 'set to be most popular in 2011'

Holidays in Turkey will be the most popular option for travelers in 2011, according to the prediction made by one organisation.

Ahead of January – which is said to be a particularly popular month for booking breaks – comparison site travelsupermarket.com has compiled a list of the top destinations for the new year.

Heading the chart is Turkey, where a reliable source of sunshine and beautiful beaches could be among the main reasons to visit.

The website's Bob Atkinson says: "Brits will take advantage of special offers and destinations that can provide these will be popular. Weather will also be a factor with two indifferent summers now in a row [at home]."

A holiday in Turkey is also likely to be a popular choice because of how far a pound goes there, with the online portal placing it in second place in its list of best value destinations.

Low-cost carrier Monarch recently released seats on its flights to Turkey for the 2011-12 winter season.
