Turkey holidays 'proving popular this Easter'

British consumers planning overseas trips for Easter have shown strong interest in Turkey holidays, it has been revealed.

Abta - The Travel Association said that trips to the country have "sold well" ahead of the spring break season.

Overall, more than two million Britons are expected to embark on getaways such as Turkey villa holidays between April 1st and 6th.

Spain continues to be the "outright favourite", Abta revealed, with the Canary Islands proving particularly popular.

Looking further afield, the travel association stated that families are "flocking to Florida" to visit "some of the world's best theme parks".

John McEwan, chairman of Abta, said: "Easter is the traditional curtain raiser to the summer and I am delighted to see that hundreds of thousands of our customers are taking the opportunity to take a well-earned break both here in the UK and overseas."

The majority of Britons heading abroad for Easter will travel from London airports, with Heathrow expected to see 575,000 departing passengers, followed by Gatwick with 250,000 and Stansted with 175,000.
