Turkey holidays 'leave visitors wanting more'

Turkey holidays have a strong appeal for Brits and often leave visitors wanting to return and experience more of the country, according to a travel expert.

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said that many destinations in eastern Europe and the Middle East have a "strong pull" owing to their sense of "adventure, genuine hospitality and incredible history".

One of the additional aspects that makes Turkey holidays so popular is the country's culture, according to Mr Hall.

"We have seen people going to Turkey … more and more and once people have had a taste of Middle Eastern culture they tend to want to do more," he said.

"I know Turkey's a European country but there's no denying that it has elements of Middle Eastern culture in it."

Mr Hall also referred to changing attitudes among British holiday makers, with many people realising that they can experience "radically different" cultures and ways of life without having to travel too far.
