Turkey holidays 'among top options for Brits this summer'

Turkey holidays will be one of the most popular options among British people heading abroad this summer, according to figures released by a leading flight search engine.

Skyscanner published a list of this year's top destinations based on searches for travel dates between June 1st and August 31st, with Dalaman ranked in fifth place.

The popular resort in south-west Turkey was the only destination outside Spain and Portugal to feature in the top five, with Alicante taking top spot in the list, followed by Malaga, Palma and Faro.

Skyscanner's statistics also indicated that Florida holidays could be popular this summer, with Orlando ranked ninth in terms of flight searches.

The city was one of three new entries in the top ten, along with New York and Bangkok.

Barry Smith, co-founder of Skyscanner, said: "Last summer there were no long-haul destinations in the top ten and Spain took seven of the top ten places. This summer, it looks like budgets are a little bigger with more people taking flights to New York, Orlando and Bangkok.

"So far the ash doesn't seem to be putting people off from travelling further afield."
