Turkey holidays 'among top alternatives to Mediterranean breaks'
Turkey holidays are among the travel options that are proving popular as an alternative to Mediterranean breaks, according to Cheapflights.co.uk.
Nadine Hallak, a spokesperson for the flight comparison site, said recent evidence suggests that the Mediterranean is losing ground to destinations in the emerging area known as the 'Mett' - Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey.
Ms Hallak said it is quite possible that Mediterranean resorts could no longer be the first choice for UK travellers by the end of 2011.
Flight searches by people planning Turkey holidays and other trips to 'Mett' destinations increased by five per cent over the last six months compared to the same period last year.
"This sound evidence shows the emerging 'Mett' is gaining popularity with the Brits, over the traditional Mediterranean for annual holidays," Ms Hallak commented.
People planning a Turkey villa holiday this year will enjoy good weather and beaches, as well as prices that are lower than in some more traditional resorts.
Ms Hallak pointed out that the 'Mett' countries also offer "unrivalled culture and history".
