Turkey holiday makers advised to take a gulet trip

Those heading off on Turkey holidays have been advised to take a trip out to sea in a wooden gulet to view the country's dramatic coastline.

In an article for the South African publication Times Live, travel journalist Paul Ash said gulet cruises offer tourists a unique opportunity to visit hidden coves and beautiful beaches.

Holiday makers can jump into the crystal clear waters for a swim when the boat anchors up in a quiet bay, or for longer day trips, perhaps spend an afternoon ashore exploring ancient ruins.

During his own time in Turkey, Mr Ash took a gulet cruise to the ancient city of Cnidos, where a temple to the Greek Goddess of Love Aphrodite is built high in the mountains and can be seen from the sea.

The gulet is a traditional Turkish sailing vessel made of wood and is a popular choice for tourist trips.

Those staying in Turkey villas in Bodrum will be able to book a place on a gulet and explore the Aegean coast.

Most trips will depart from the resort's bustling yacht harbour, which is overlooked by Bodrum's 15th century castle.

The town is also home to numerous bars and restaurants serving traditional Turkish and international cuisine.
