Those booking Turkey villas told of Istanbul's appeal
Holiday makers who have opted to spend some of their summer in Turkey villas around Istanbul have been told of places to seek out in the city.
Joanna Marsh, a spokeswoman for the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, pointed out that the destination offers a unique mix of modern and ancient scenes.
For example, there are such sites as the Topkapi Palace, the Turkish Baths and the Blue Mosque for fans of culture, while a trendier side of Istanbul can be sought out in the city's Beyoglu area.
"If you have a little time then just head off the main roads and wander around some of the back streets to discover a more authentic side to Istanbul," Ms Marsh went on to recommend those staying in villas in Turkey.
Istanbul has already seen plenty of tourist activity so far in 2011, with passenger traffic at the location's IST airport up 9.3 per cent in March of this year compared to the same month in 2010.
