Maritime festival to entertain Turkey villa guests

People planning to take a Turkey villa holiday in May might be interested in paying a visit to the city of Marmaris as it celebrates one of its annual traditions.

The Maritime and Spring Festival will come to the vibrant port and tourist destination on Turkey's Mediterranean coast from May 19th to 23rd.

All sorts of events will be arranged for the five-day celebration, including live shows and competitions on a maritime theme, which will invite all visitors to get involved.

The festival will be opened by Turkish dance collective Anadolu Atesi - which translates as Anatolian Fire - while other performance groups from across Turkey, Northern Cyprus and other countries will also entertain the crowds.

A particular highlight for people on Turkey villa holidays to look out for is the traditional 'greasy mast' contest.

This event sees participants attempting to retrieve a flag from the mast of a gullet sailing boat.

Marmaris is located on the Mediterranean coast in south-west Turkey, meaning it is easy to reach for people taking holidays in Dalyan and other popular resorts in the region.
