Holidays to Turkey 'in demand in 2011'
The tourism industry of Turkey has just witnessed one of its most successful years to date in 2011, according to new research.
By the end of last year, a total of 31.4 million foreign people paid a visit to Turkey, either for business or holiday reasons - a nine per cent increase on 2010's figures.
This is significantly higher than the 30 million tourists which various Turkish tourism industry experts had set a target for the country to achieve in 2011.
When it came to choosing where to base holidays in Turkey around, the most popular resort of the last 12 months was Antalya, with 33.27 per cent of total tourism.
Istanbul (25.61 per cent), Mugla (9.78 per cent), Edirne (8.59 per cent) and Izmir (4.36 per cent) were other popular areas for holiday makers.
Brits who flock to Istanbul this May are in for a treat, seeing as though the city is host to Istancool, an event which brings together fashion, arts, literature and film shows into one programme.
