Airport figures show popularity of Turkey holidays

Turkey holidays proved a highly popular option in the first half of the year, airport traffic figures suggest.

Statistics released by the Turkish Directorate General of State Airports Authority showed that the country's air travel hubs welcomed more than 44 million passengers in the first six months of 2010.

This figure represented an increase of 24 per cent from the same period in 2009.

The announcement was welcomed by property firm Experience International, which said it appears that "we're all going on a Turkish holiday this year".

Steven Worboys, managing director of the firm, said: "It has never been easier to get to Turkey.

"With the crystal clear waters and golden sands of the Aegean coast for example just a four-hour flight away, Brits are taking advantage of the raft of low-cost flights available."

Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum were among the most popular destinations for Turkey holidays in the first half of the year, all reporting a 19 per cent increase in international services at local airports.

Travellers planning to visit the country this year can book villas in Ortakent, Konacik, Dalyan and other popular destinations.
