Many British holiday makers look set to take up their winter getaway to villas in Tenerife, if new research is to be believed.
Carhiremarket.com found in a study that the popular Canary Island hotspot is proving the most popular for people seeking a trip abroad either next month or in January 2012.
The price comparison site based its findings on car hire bookings which have been taken around the world in the weeks ahead.
In order to reach the number one spot in the survey, Tenerife beat off competition from destinations such as Geneva, Cape Town and the Algarve city of Faro.
Andrew Shorrock, product manager at carhiremarket.com, acknowledged: "With forecasters warning of another big freeze this winter with Siberian temperatures and widespread snow, it's no wonder that many Brits are looking to take to the skies and fly off to sunnier climes."
The study comes soon after Canaries News reported that Tenerife council has revealed there has been a 15 per cent rise in winter bookings taken by Brits this year.
