Winter holiday in the south of France 'offers plenty of skiing opportunities'

Tourists who book a winter holiday in the south of France will not be stuck for options when it comes to planning a day trip to local ski slopes.

Atout France, the country's visitor agency, notes those staying in the heart of the Mediterranean coast have potential destinations to both their east and west.

As well as the traditional ski spots within the Alps, holiday makers are advised to head to the Pyrenees in the country's south-west.

The organisation suggests this area can provide the base for a "unique" experience on the snowy pistes of France.

Skiing can also provide a short break from the glamorous coast of southern France, a region popular with some of the world's most rich and famous.

Alternatively, visitors could choose to enjoy evidence of the area's colourful past, which was described by Rosalind Grant, in a letter to the Daily Telegraph this week.

She said she was overwhelmed by the amount of Jewish history on offer in towns such as Cavaillon.
