Visit 'vibrant' Nice on a South of France holiday

While on a South of France villa holiday, families should take time to visit the "vibrant" city of Nice, one travel journalist has claimed.

In an article for the Independent, Imogen Haddon said Nice - France's fifth largest city - is great for art lovers and foodies alike.

She recommended exploring the Old Town and climbing the 90 metres to the top for some fabulous views.

In the distance, holiday makers can even see Elton John's Cote d'Azur villa.

The harbour is also a great place to visit, where luxurious yachts "dwarf" the local fishermen's boats, Ms Haddon claimed.

"From here, wind around the seafront past the war memorial carved in stone. Continue past the Hotel Perouse and briefly along the Quai des Etats-Unis, dodging the joggers and rollerbladers," she advised.

There are also a number of art galleries in Nice, while local markets are also held regularly, selling everything from fresh local food produce to gifts and trinkets.

And in order to see as much of the city as possible, holiday makers can hire bikes from various points and pay by the hour.

Those renting South of France villas in Vence will be just a few kilometres away from Nice, while Antibes will also be close by for a visit.
