Visit the Lavender Festival on a Provence holiday
Holiday makers who plan to stay in villas in Provence during the month of August may wish to take in a special festival celebrating lavender.
The fragrant flower is hailed in the town of Sault, which is located less than one hour east of Avignon and is easily accessible to anyone on a Provence holiday.
Celebrations at the Lavender Festival include traditional Provencal parades, local music and horse shows. Festival-goers are also invited to stroll the streets of the town, enjoy a spot of shopping from local retailers and of course sample the region's famed rose wine.
Visitors to the region may even wish to take a tour of a lavender farm or lavender hybrid distillery for additional insight into how the fragrant blossoms are harvested in the summer months.
There is plenty of holiday accommodation in Provence to suit travellers in large or small groups. Villas - many of which have swimming pools - are available in towns throughout the region, including Gordes, Fayence and Regusse.
