Visit a traditional wine-making village while on a South of France villa holiday

Wine lovers may wish to visit the country's oldest wine region while on a South of France villa holiday.

The small village of Vidauban in the heart of Provence specialises in rose wine, with grenache, syrah and cabernet sauvignon being the most abundant grape varieties.

Writing for the Guardian, Alice Alech tells of her visit to the region, where she learnt the fundamentals behind a successful vintage.

Explaining the allure of the rose, Ms Alech states: "The geographic characteristics of a place will shape and influence the quality of wine made from the grape … so rose wine from the Cote de Provence will have a unique quality specific only to the Cote de Provence."

Many people also appreciate a chilled glass of the light red wine, which paired well with the Provence cuisine, she added.

Wine connoisseurs may wish to take a tour through the Provence region, discovering why it is regarded as one of the best wine making places in the world.
