Visit Altera Rosa on a south of France villa holiday
The Altera Rosa festival will return to Avignon this year, providing a memorable experience for people taking south of France villa holidays.
Visitors will be able to attend the event at the Palais des Papes from May 13th to 16th.
Named Altera Rosa after the alternative title for Avignon - Altera Roma - the four-day exhibition celebrates the rose and showcases several new species of the flower.
Acclaimed rose growers from all over Europe travel to southern France to provide blooms for the festival.
Last year, over 24,000 people visited the Benedict XII cloister at the Palais des Papes to attend the event.
As well as experiencing local traditions, holiday makers staying in Provence villas can visit Avignon to see some of its attractions and landmarks, which include modern art museums, historic bridges and cathedrals.
Popular gathering points in the city include the Place du Palais and the Place Pie. The latter hosts a covered market every day that sells local cheeses, wines and other produce.
